Frequently Asked Questions.  Everything you need to know about FIT Rehab injury solutions

What is an exercise Physiologist? What qualifications does an exercise physiologist have?

Exercise physiologists are university qualified professsionals specialising in the field of exercise prescription used to help people with medical conditions.   All our exercise physiologists are also members of Exercise Sports Science Australia and have special interests in various fields of health.

How is an exercise physiologist different to a physiotherapist?

Both physiotherapists and exercise physiologists will have a role in improving the health of people with chronic disease or injury.  Exercises physiologists have an increasing role in providing exercise in populations with metabolic, cardiopulmonary and musculoskeletal disorders.  We also have extensive knowledge in behaviour and lifestyle modification.  FIT Rehab exercise physiologist have additional experience of over 15 years in the field of workplace injury, prevention and rehabilitation.

Who should see an FIT Rehab exercise physiologist?

FIT Rehab specialises in work injury prevention and rehabilitation.  If you have had a workplace injury that has been more than 4-6 weeks and have physical work  requirements it is likely that you would benefit from work related activity treatment.

What conditions and injuries can you help with?

FIT Rehab Services provide effective injury solutions for work related injury beyond the early acute and sub-acute phase and most chronic conditions.  Work related injuries that we most commonly see are lumbar spine injuries, rotator cuff injuries of the shoulder, lateral epicondylagia (tennis elbow) and meniscal injuries of the knee.

Where will my assessment and consultations be conducted?

We make our best effort to make your FIT Rehab accessible and convenient to give you the best chance of success.  To achieve this we pride ourselves on being mobile.  We will locate the closest centre to your home or workplace to organise an assessment.  We could even conduct your assessment at your home or workplace.

What should I bring to my assessment?

The more information that we have the better we can cater to your goals and specific needs.  Some of the things that you might have and should bring in are:
  • Insurance company details
  • Workcover medical certificate
  • Any letters from your specialist, GP or physiotherapist
  • Scans and investigations including MRI, bone scan, X-rays and ultrasounds
  • Any exercise sheets you may have been given.

You should also dress comfortably with clothes that wont restrict your movement in order for you to perform the functional tests during the assessment.

Do I need a referral from my doctor?

A referral from your doctor is essential if you are seeking treatment under certain funding models such as a medicare care plan or department of veteran affairs.  It is also preferable to have a referral if you are seeking treatment for a work related injury.
Even if a referral is not required we recommend all patients to speak to their doctor to ensure they are suitable for participation in an exercise based program.

What payment options do you accept?

We accept payment through most private health cover, medicare and department of veterans affairs (which we bulk billing), workers compensation and compulsory third party claims.   We also provide private treatment paid by the client.

Can you come to my local gym or pool?

FIT Rehab is able to utilise most pool and gym facilities throughout the north and south west of Sydney, Bankstown, inner west, kogarah and sutherland regions.

What times can I do my program?

FIT Rehab will make every effort to work around your work and home schedules.  We operate all workdays from 8 am to 6 pm ordinarily.  Sessions outside of these hours as well as weekend times are also available on request.
